The best of the week

What have you been up to this week,

Has it been busy or relaxing?

Since most of you might be at home this week, and no doubt rattling around with nothing to do (haha)

Below are some of the best stories I have read this week...most of them very funny..especially Pioneer Woman's story...and Charlie Brown's (video) the Meaning of Christmas is also very good....

but this one was also very good from the nytimes yesterday,about a family dining out twice a day for several days whenever they visit NYC....

Irene said...: Happy New Year to you as well. It's been a funny sort of week here, I've slept in till after 6 a.m. which is wonderful, not much other doing , little bits and pieces just. We have snow here this week so it's been cold. I'll be snuggling up to my guys for the New Years Eve festivities. Staying home that is, usually I make some crazy kinds of food and we just watch a movie, no dancing this year.; December 30, 2011 12:32 AM

prayers for the heavy rain and flooding

Prayers for the people of St George tonight as they evacuate from their town, with expectations of a record flood height tomorrow night. This is the third time in two years that they have been flooded. Other towns like Roma and Charleville are cleaning up after a similar event. More towns affected by flooding in NSW.

prayers for those not well...may God watch over them.

Jan 24 2012 Prayers for those affected by all the heavy rain experienced in the last 24 hours and for those who will be impacted overnight and tomorrow with predictions of more heavy rain for the next 24 hours at least.

Jan 25th. Rain moved south and not too far inland. But now NSW is flooding.
The rain forecast for the next week is not promising.

Jan 27th renewed threats of flooding from more torrential rain over night, again moving south.

Giving Thanks

Thanks to God for special occasions. For grandchildren, and children who care. For the beach for the ocean, for shelter and our daily food.

Grateful thanks for a little family newly arrived back on Australian soil. May they be feeling a little less jet lagged each day.
Thanks for less jet lag, some later sleeping times, not always coordinated between children, and provision of a rental home for the next six months.

Prayers for those who travel at Christmas.And for those who have very little in the way of family friends or food also.

Just one example of the after effects of the flood

Ginger growers on Queensland's Sunshine Coast are considering leaving the industry after losing up to 60 per cent of their crops to fungus.

About 80 per cent of Australia's ginger is grown in Queensland.

Local ginger grower and the president of the Australian Ginger Growers Association, Louie Davison, says the fungus pythium soft rot has affected between 50 and 60 per cent of the region's crops.

Mr Davison says he is thinking about not planting ginger next year.

"Not very good ... we don't know where to turn," he said.

We've got 200 acres of ground here that we're looking at walking away from, so we've lost 80 per cent," he said.

"We planted 110 acres and we'll probably harvest 20."

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you concieve Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
