changes of seasons

It is such a lovely time of year... even the azaleas are trying to bloom at last. With the temperature going up by a degree a day from 27 yesterday to 31 on Sunday, it won't be long before they are out this little magpie came in to say hello as I sat out on the patio one morning I don't think he was the same one as in the previous post but he wasn't shy. He walked right up to me...and I couldn't get to focus the camera properly for the closer shots! He walked right on by when he realized I am not the lady who feeds him! the orchids are a delight and continue to blaze away out there I walked down to the shops to return my library books I asked the librarian if could I take a photo through the huge windows they have there on the west...perfect spot to sit in our new library. Lovely. And I took this photo of this palm tree in flower at a friend's place. Pretty sure it was a Chinese Fan Palm and the setting sun is such a delight, the way the light falls on the foliage a...

TODAY'S FLOWERS

Image
We have had a lot of rain during the week, so that made for some pretty flower pictures. This is very pretty, but I am pretty sure it is a weed, at least in this part of the world. The flowering pomegranates are almost finished. Most of them I found on the ground, as little stars like this.... I photographed some of them on top of my fungus book. There is a red flowering gum tree up a laneway from where I walk...very pretty. And the poincianas looked pretty with the rain drops still on them! I am not sure what these are... and these are some flowers on what I call a flame tree. another pretty gardenia.... I finally managed to photograph the gum tree flowers from the big tree on my front footpath. And I will leave you with the lovely frangipani again! If you would like to see other contributors from around the world...please click on the TODAY'S FLOWERS ICON up in my sidebar.

ABC WEDNESDAY the letter P

Image
The letter P this week is for PRICKLY PEAR These fine specimens were in my sons back garden in Melbourne, but they do occur in Queensland. They got to be such a pest in Queensland taking over the valuable farming land, that a bug had to be introduced to eradicate them...there is a memorial hall to the bug out on the Darling Downs, I think at a little place call ed Boonarga. The PINEAPPLE is a POPULAR fruit here too! My PETRIA is flowering away PRETTILY as is my flowering POMEGRANATE The PLOVERS have been warding off people walking too close to their nest. I always wonder why they make their nests on the ground, but they do seem quite efficient at warning people so I guess they can get away with it, eh? This morning was the first morning that they wern't there on my morning walk, so maybe the babies are old enough to defend themselves now. Here's hoping! This looks a little like a PIZZA , but it isn't ..it is a POTATO fritter! This was a lovely wheelbarrow of PETUNIAS a...
