An Australian Thanksgiving

Many thanks for the wonderful provision of fresh fruit around us for dancing ladies and agapanthus flowering a rainy misty morning...looking out over Mt Cootha from my morning walk cheerful bougainvillea and poinciana blooms for highways and freeways and byways for the rain, even though it was very heavy in patches, and not very heavy in other places Greetings and a Happy Thanksgiving to you from Sippy Downs, Australia.

My sub tropical World

I had to go over to the library at the Mt Cootha Botanical Gardens. No, this is not the library (above)...it is the tropical dome, where giant waterlilies and other interesting plants, live! I was surprised to see that there was a pineapple growing at the front door to the library! When I mentioned it to the librarian, he hadn't even noticed. Maybe he lives on a pineapple farm! the library specializes in horticulture and astronomy, (in fact there are no ordinary books)...as there is a planetarium here too! You will see it below. One of the local wildlife, a willy wagtail, came out to greet me as I left the library...he was very welcoming and friendly! Here is the planetarium building. One day I will get to go to it, and see the wonderful displays they put on there. I noticed the morning light shining through the hibiscus in the front garden this morning, above.. and most of these flowers are photos from gardens around here that I took on my morning walk the other day...azaleas above...a little early (it is still winter here) gerberas were lovely... was surprised to find a pineapple flowering outside the library when I went over to the Mt Cootha Botanic Gardens, on the western outskirts of Brisbane .... a lovely purple rose.... and this strange flower on quite a large bush...Bixa orellana some very pretty canna lilies... and begonias...all colors! flowers on a paperbark tree..... camellias...very lovely... above, a lassiandra, I think.... a Strelitzia (or Bird of Paradise) a healthy looking poinsettia.... a pink hibiscus.... some purple lantana, yellow orange and red hibiscus.... a very pretty golden bougainvillea..... and a good shot of a bauhinia....
