I love this tree that we used to walk past, down in Inwood Park (NYC)... I couldn't resist putting this one in...since I am missing him so much! Requiem for a tree that no longer exists...condemned for being in a playground...and not safe apparently. The baby and I were passing by when it was cut down. I decided to stand a long way off, as the rope they tied the strongest last branch to was not looking strong enough to me. Sure enough, it broke, and the branch fell on top of the tree loppers car. Just as well it didn't fall on his helper down below, who emerged, and looked at the rope as if to say.."why did that happen"? Now this lump of wood we found in the Natural History Museum in New York. WOW. What did they cut that one down for? And the finished product...houses built from wood, in my home town in Australia. To Brisbane, the State Capital, where the Brisbane River meanders through the city, and gracious old Queenslanders (that's the houses) adorn the banks of the river and many of the streets where the weather they say is beautiful one day and perfect the next....mostly. Where there are purple houses...and the weather now is 30 degrees celsius and the humidity about 100% Queensland, where we have just had the worst drought in living memory, where floods happen at a moment's notice (last week)...and where the traffic banks up for miles on different roads in different directions, because of a malfunctioning traffic light (this morning, where I live). Please note, not all the houses are purple, nor are they all old Queenslanders. Some, or should I say many are quite ordinary little brick boxes. Of course there are many expensive mansions too. Welcome to the sub-tropics. Where mangoes fall off the trees, papaws and pineapples delight, and the best beaches only an hour away.

Had a safe flight back. And someone came to welcome me home! He's looking a bit hot there. He reminded me of another dreadfully (40 degree plus) day we had a few years back when the kookaburra was happy for me to hose him off with the hose! This photo was taken through the kitchen window, hence the unclear nature of the image, sorry. I didn't like to disturb him since the door was only a meter away from where he sat! It was 35 degrees celsius, and the humidity must have been 100% here yesterday when I arrived. Fortunately they are predicting a cooler 29 degree day with rain...much better...for today.Thanks for your prayers, I appreciate them all! May God bless you all also! It is 5am as I write this, and not light yet. But the birds are singing. It is so quiet after being in New York! Gosh it must be nearly Autumn here. When I look at your heavens the work of your fingers the moon and stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor. O Lord, our sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! .......................................................................... After 3 months wonderful family time here in New York, prayers for a safe journey home appreciated. May the Lord Bless you all today also.

There was no shortage of flowers this weekend in NYC. It was Valentine's Day. I had a coffee with my sweet man at the cafe. He didnt want his identity revealed, so he hid his head from the paparazzi. No shortage of goodies either. I hope you had a lovely weekend too.

There was a little snow this week past. Inwood steps. Gosh, remind me why we brought the pram MaMa. You see where this guy likes to walk...that's right, on the slippery ice...likes living on the edge he does! Anyone for tennis? Oh, the gates are locked! Yes, well there is a bit of snow on those courts there I see. But look, they left the playground open! Hooray. We can play! mmm....but you can't sit down yet, MaMa.... Ah, the swings...hooray...!! What a bright sunny day!

Interesting to see some skiers trying out their skis in the latest snow! going home....has to be carried or he would stay out all day...our cross country walker! I was surprised to see some red berries in the playground garden on Sunday. A playground I haven't been to much, but obviously is a little more sheltered. Surprise...look who was hiding...! I love to see the color red out and about on our walks. When the landscape is virtually gray, it is always a lovely surprise to see a splash of color..especially RED!
