Royal Bull's Head Inn
I was able to take a tour of the Royal Bull's Head Inn at Drayton, on the outskirts of Toowoomba when I went up the range on the weekend. It is an historic old place of significance to the history of the area. "This appealing building, nestled against a hill ...was part of a popular hotel established in 1847 by ex-convict William Horton. At a time when wayside inns were notoriously rough and ready, and a horse often got a better billet than his master, Horton built an enviable reputation for comfort and service at his inn". I thought you might like to look around too. All the rooms had furniture and accessories from previous eras. Especially the jug and basin for ablutions. This room had a great old travel case. I wonder if it was Horton's when he was deported to Australia. Somehow I think not. I can't imagine that the convicts came with much luggage at the time, especially as most of them were so poor they were probably being deported for stealing...usually to fe...
