This week it has rained rained rained...I think I have already said that this week a couple of times! For many in southern Queensland, it has meant floods floods floods. One town out west, Charleville, has had their second flood in as many days....but I don't think anyone anywhere will be complaining, as it means the end (we hope) of the decade long drought for many...and the men on the land will probably cheering loudest. With the people of Brisbane (and others) close behind, because it has meant that our dams are now at 85% ...and probably rising! The view above is to the NORTH past Mt Cootha and looking towards the city.... this is to the SOUTH (my favorite view, from my back verandah) and looking towards the mountains...the Great Dividing Range. An anomaly of the recent rains and drought is that Toowoomba, our fair city on the top of the Great Divide up there , has its dams at only TEN PERCENT...despite all the rain! A pipeline has been built from our dams up the range to alle...

I noticed the morning light shining through the hibiscus in the front garden this morning, above.. and most of these flowers are photos from gardens around here that I took on my morning walk the other day...azaleas above...a little early (it is still winter here) gerberas were lovely... was surprised to find a pineapple flowering outside the library when I went over to the Mt Cootha Botanic Gardens, on the western outskirts of Brisbane .... a lovely purple rose.... and this strange flower on quite a large bush...Bixa orellana some very pretty canna lilies... and begonias...all colors! flowers on a paperbark tree..... camellias...very lovely... above, a lassiandra, I think.... a Strelitzia (or Bird of Paradise) a healthy looking poinsettia.... a pink hibiscus.... some purple lantana, yellow orange and red hibiscus.... a very pretty golden bougainvillea..... and a good shot of a bauhinia.... These very pretty bulbs at church this morning! What a lovely idea! And a wonderful cream flower on this tree at the Mt Cootha Botanic Gardens yesterday. Just looked marvelous on the ground under the tree And this is the name of it, if anyone is interested! The crepe myrtle looked great at church this morning, I thought. The bauhinia is looking good against the frangipani next door. Time to get to and start cutting it back, I think! This white flower was on a vine down the road...don't know the name sorry, but they are quite striking. The flowers on the umbrella tree next door. And a little series of the yellow tree that is flowering all around here at the moment. It develops a pink flower with the seed inside. I stopped at the Murray Clewett wetlands on the way out of Toowoomba during the week. And caught this cute little mickey bird enjoying the tastes of the grevilleas. My yellow flowering tree is doing well....there are the little pinkish flowers coming on too... A strelitzia ...
