Thanksgiving is over...and now it is The Wet Season! Hooray, It is raining today! After all the storms of late, it is nice to have a normal rainy day!  from a trip to the beach with a little grand daughter on an unexpected day off for us both  watching the traffic go by and eating ice creams...  to a trip to the Alma Mater in the Big City for Mummy to meet up with some friends she studied honors with  baby J was quite happy at the back of the room gurgling and looking out the window of the art museum, watching the sunset on the old buildings and the now famous gargoyles.  and back to another beach on another day for another workshop meeting for Mummy  baby was very good for Grandma in between visiting Mummy at break time for feeds and no, we didn't play in the sand dunes...not after reading that message! After the beauty of the jacarandas , we now have the red poincianas coming out  to add a touch of color to the Chr...

Out of the rain

Image
One advantage of the weather lately has been admiring the various blooms .. these irises were looking quite delightful on Sunday... the birds like to come out of the rain I love listening to them as they warble happily away. this magpie was quite happy sitting there yesterday as I took several photos of him  quite a nice sunset last night didn't really indicate the rain that was to come today the butcher bird was happy to take refuge today and similarly warbled a song for me thanks for coming little fellow... sorry I had to use the flash to get a nice photo of you, promise I won't do it again! pop in again tomorrow, I think the rain will still be here, according to the forecast. hopefully the low might be passing by us faster than they were predicting.  Unfortunately we don't really need the rain after the last lot a few weeks ago of 16 inches.  Oh well, what's another couple of inches after that many? I just hope it doesn't fl...

Power Off Power On again

Image
we finally were able to drive to the beach the day before I left for home.. the sea looked very angry right on the sand dunes , these pretty little pink flowers were poking their way through...  very very pretty, even Master Four thought they were great. when I got back and was editing the photos I took, I remembered I had a neighbor who grew up in Gympie and called these flowers, Aunty Dot's weed! Aunty Dot was her sister! look how strong the ocean was! the family found a more sheltered place to have a little swim.. then we went to Moffatt Beach and ate our fish and chips as the sun went down...very nice.. A nice little time to spend at the beach after a wild few days of the cyclonic influence going past.. and before I finally had some way of returning home, luckily by bus and trains,  as they had started moving again by then! I found less mess at home than I had expected, no flooding downstairs but no power on, which was a little frustrating....

Happy New Year Everyone.

Not growing weary

Image
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God the creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40: 28-31 NIV version.

sunrise and sunset

We've had a lot of smoke haze lately. Fortunately it has lifted mainly now. This was the sunrise the other morning. And this was the sunset.

and more rain predicted...it just keeps on falling. The Mary River catchment to the north of us here had 300mm (that's 12 inches of rain) yesterday. Making communities there at risk of flooding. some visitors from the country came yesterday...for Brisbane it was a day without rain..wow. dress ups is always a popular game here... always good fun a magnificent sunset also...amazing.. off to church this morning early. the sermon on "water" based on the lectionary reading of the baptism of Jesus by John in the river Jordan, was very appropriate, considering the circumstances we find ourselves here in Queensland. some of the finished rugs were gathered in. and someone (me) took a terrible photo of them in a hurry before they got taken away. And then it poured with rain on the way home! May God go with you this week.
