the monthly update

Image
a glimpse from the last month...a baby butcher bird...is this the one I rescued when I found it on the ground? I discovered that Australia Zoo Hospital (a la Terry, young Bindi and of course the late Steve Irwin fame,) was only too happy to take injured animals..in fact it seems easier to get help for an animal in the night than for ourselves!! ;-) apologies for a scarcity of posts lately...seem to have been busy with visitors...and a little gardening  spring gardens and trips to the seaside  seagulls  and a sunset at Caloundra  a frangipani starting to flower  and below, finally a swim at  the beach at Mooloolaba...my second swim in the ocean (with visitors...thanks Carol and Cheryl) in three years! A shocking statistic!! another sunset ...  and a preview of the supermoon...from the night before... more to come

The skies

Image
The skies have been mostly clear...the dust took a while to clear.... After the tree loppers had been and chopped branches off the trees next door (argh...) there were some spectacular sunsets for me out the back in the new landscape... there has been some discussion going on in my head as to whether the new expanded view is worth having the extra sunshine that will belt in on my western and kitchen walls. I think not really. The view was pretty good before anyway! there have been a few clouds, and even a short sharp thunderstorm yesterday! Not much rain in it for us, when we have beeen 4 months without rain now! I do appreciate the sunsails at the shopping centers...to keep us a bit cooler in the summer... another gorgeous sunset,a nd the moon was quite intriguing also...I left it almost too late to get out there and get a photo! everywhere one looks here at the moment the landscape is absolutely dotted with these wonderful blue jacarandas...I love it...almost makes the approach of su...

the week's skies from southern Queensland

Image
I managed to catch the moon with some tree branches across it last night.... Today the skies are pretty blue.... you would never know that there was the biggest pea-souper of a FOG two hours earlier today when I woke! Some photos of the sunset earlier in the week.... I really quite like this one of the road above. It is much better than the straight clear shot! more moon shots from earlier in the week....again behind the tree.... a reflection from the creek at tennis earlier in the week..... and I just have to finish off with this shot from last Friday that didn't make it into last Friday's sky shots. Hope you have enjoyed the skies from my sub-tropical world here in Southern Queensland, Australia. If you would like to see more from around the world, please click on the SKYWATCH icon over in the sidebar.... Please feel free to peruse the rest of the blog, and enjoy more shots from my world....

Skywatch Friday

Image
Some clear skies, great sunsets and the new moon. Can you see it there..almost in the middle of the photo above! Even the evening star was also making an appearance in the shot below as well! That one might be a little bit more difficult to spot! It is sometimes difficult to get a shot in between the power poles and electricity wires in the way! There have been some quite lovely sunsets as usual this week! Here is a double sunset..with a reflection in the doors last night... and finally the moon was there also last night...and I nearly missed seeing it! If you are interested in seeing more skies from around the world, please click on the Skywatch icon over in the sidebar. For those of you who have been following the Victorian bush fire disaster. The extreme fire danger is now over for the moment, Praise God, with a cooler change and some rain which has come to the state. This is the first time for over a month now that people have been able to relax without looking over their should...
