pretty good mostly... the rain of the last month seems to have mostly gone, though there are plenty of clouds beautiful sunsets... an odd shower or two now and then... but mostly pretty delightful...autumn temperatures, very pleasant. Time to head to the hills again.... an advertisement for a parachuting center along the way...always gets to me! the summer crops are ready to harvest...sorghum? seems as if some cormorants have moved into the gardens up there...are they replacing the very large and noisy bat colony...I didn't see or hear any of the bats there this time... the ducks are always looking happy to be fed.... lovely walks to be had through these gardens.... and on the way home, some hay bales to take a photograph of as I stopped for fuel. a picnic on the banks of the Brisbane River as you cross it....always a good spot.... and the view in the rear vision mirror as I left there....a couple of Moreton Bay Fig Trees. for more entries in My World this week, please click on the picture over in the sidebar....

a few flowers from around about...Purple Heart is easy to propagate from cuttings, even in a glass of water on the windowsill. Purple Heart may also be called Tradescantia pallida ‘Purpurea’. flowering at the moment...all the lovely cassias..... Cassia didymobotrya Fresen. [family CAESALPINIACEAE] love these last two simple ones...The lavenders ( Lavandula ) are a genus of 39 species of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae and some simple daisies....Dimorphotheca pluvialis, the African Moon are the white daisy flowers, native of Namibia . African Moon flowers are also commonly called as Oxeye daisy, Rain Daisy, Cape Daisy, Witbotterblom . African Moon is cultivated as field crop for oil seed production particularly in Northern Europe. I managed to get a shot of some raindrops this morning. There is another cyclone approaching the coast, which promises even more rain for our already sodden ground. The sun came out again. The weekend will tell where and when the cyclone decides to travel, and possibly cross the coast.

Actually, it isn't quite a week. More like the last few days. I could have included more, but I thought these were the most representative, and quite literally, the best of the lot. A wonderfully painted traffic signal box just up the road....the painter dedicated it to her father.... the not so beautiful, depending on who you are and what your likes and dislikes are....this ugly looking fungus , or fungii, were growing in or under the long grass (it had been recently roughly cut) down the back of our church. It could give you a bit of a fright if you didn't know what it was! Luckily I have seen it once before, at my place...it is called a Starfish Fungus (aseroe rubra) according to A field guide to Australian FUNGI , by Bruce Fuhrer. This particular one was at least six inches across. Quite a large one too, as my book says they grow up to 130 mm...and I am sure this one was larger than that! Will have to go back and check just for the record. the river down at the end of the street. We have had so much rain, that the dams here filled over 20% of their capacity, from over 74% to 94% on the weekend! There have been floods in many places throught southern and ...

This week it has rained rained rained...I think I have already said that this week a couple of times! For many in southern Queensland, it has meant floods floods floods. One town out west, Charleville, has had their second flood in as many days....but I don't think anyone anywhere will be complaining, as it means the end (we hope) of the decade long drought for many...and the men on the land will probably cheering loudest. With the people of Brisbane (and others) close behind, because it has meant that our dams are now at 85% ...and probably rising! The view above is to the NORTH past Mt Cootha and looking towards the city.... this is to the SOUTH (my favorite view, from my back verandah) and looking towards the mountains...the Great Dividing Range. An anomaly of the recent rains and drought is that Toowoomba, our fair city on the top of the Great Divide up there , has its dams at only TEN PERCENT...despite all the rain! A pipeline has been built from our dams up the range to alle...
